Getting Involved

Walk around to the Secret Forest or Pelican Lagoon.  Look at the birds as over 188 species have been sighted and recorded on The Common over the last 6 years by Prof Hugh Possingham.

Take a picnic lunch and experience The Common first hand.

Contact us on friendsofoxleycreekcommon@qmail.com if you want to help with promoting community engagement.

– If anyone is interested in Stage 2 WETLAND restoration or talking about how to fix this next stage of the WETLAND complex, please contact us.  The 2011 floods once again covered most of this land zoned for community and reminded us yet again that this land certainly is in a floodplain.

– If anyone is interested in helping the COMMUNITY FARM on the Common, please contact us.  In April 2009 a farm proposal was forward to The State Government and to The Brisbane City Council.  Feedback from State Govt Works Dept is that a proposed Community Farm is on their draft Community Strategy Document. Brisbane City Council say the land is on the contaminated land site – we will look into that as it probably is only the old DPI cattle dip area not decommissioned.

– AND We hope one day to get Brisbane City Council’s Habitat Brisbane people on board to provide advice and help with setting up a bushcare group .  Presently, as the State Government own the land, and the demand is very high for environmental assistance to volunteer groups, we can not even get on Brisbane City Council’s Habitat Brisbane’s list of groups hoping to get assistance.
